2016 Sutton Grange Estate Fiano
Fiano thrives on our property and we work across the vineyard and winery to build a textural and concentrated wine, tracing the line between the exotic characters in the variety and the natural tannin and acid levels.
Fiano was planted at Sutton Grange Winery in 2004 and 2005, a variety that loves the warm and dry summers just like 2016 vintage. This wine is made from three picks off our Fiano blocks. One of which was crushed and pressed directly to old French oak for natural ferment (no cold settling), another was foot stomped and had 8 hours of skin contact before pressing to old French oak, and the final batch whole bunch pressed to tank for fermentation. This wine had nine months maturation before blending and bottling on the Estate in December 2016.
Aromas of spiced quince, grapefruit and lemon grass, with exotic lifted spices on the nose and complex notes of flint and vanilla bean. The palate has flavours of grapefruit pith and lemon curd with creamy wild honey notes. The wine finishes with a bright acid line balanced with a tight mineral texture and chalky finish.
The Real Review - Huon Hooke
95 Points, Ranked #1 Fiano in Australia
Very light-yellow colour, with a creamy yeast-lees aroma, fresh and bright and slightly cashew-nutty, but the sur-lie characters predominate. The palate is soft and fruity with a hint of sweet preserved lemon, and a beautifully harmonious follow-through. A gorgeous dry fiano in a fuller, richer style
