The Sutton Grange Estate Syrah is the purest expression of the property.
Tight, graphite tannins typical for Shiraz on granite.
Lifted, intense purple fruits and wild berries on the nose, with spice notes of aniseed, cinnamon and nutmeg. The wine is concentrated and robust, and yet elegant, with blackberry fruit and layered tannin. The palate finishes with dark, gravel like tannins and core of graphite.
2017 Vintage at Sutton Grange
Good winter rainfalls lead to great water storage and soil moisture at the start of the season. Late budburst and cold start to Spring and the growing season, with a very cold and super wet September and October. This meant we had large vegetative canopy growth in the vineyard leading into flowering. Flowering had ideal conditions, setting one of the largest crop levels the vineyard has seen, which balanced well with the large canopies. The start of summer saw rainfalls dry up, with a mild Summer. Long and late ripening period, with lovely even conditions (no hot spikes). Late picking dates. Lovely shading on the reds, with no heat or sunburn pressure, and big berries and big bunches.
